MCAP (AIM)

031Going without prenatal care can cause many problems for you and your baby. The State of California wants to help you get good health care during your pregnancy. If you don’t have insurance to cover your pregnancy and you do not qualify for no-cost Medi-Cal or Medicare Part A and Part B, the Medi-Cal Access Program (MCAP) may be the helping hand you and your baby need. MCAP can also help if you have other health insurance that doesn’t cover maternity services or with a maternity-only deductible or copayment greater than $500.

To be accepted into the MCAP Program, you must meet 5 requirements:

  • You must be pregnant,
  • You must be a California resident for at least 6 months.
  • You must be ineligible for no-cost Medi-Cal or Medicare benefits.
  • You must be uninsured, or have a maternity deductible of over $500.
  • You must meet MCAP income guidelines

greenmarkThe MCAP Program covers all your medically necessary services from the time you are accepted into the MCAP Program until 60 days after your pregnancy has ended.

While enrolled in the MCAP Program, coverage includes:

  • All necessary physician services
  • Medical equipment charges
  • Hospital services
  • Prenatal care
  • Prescriptions
  • Well-baby care
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Emergency services
